CIBC Yellowknife Wins 2012 Accessibility Award

The NWT Human Rights Commission is pleased to announce that the CIBC Yellowknife Branch is the recipient of a new award, the first ever Human Rights Commission Accessibility Award.  This 2012 award recognizes a public service provider that has improved accessibility for clients or customers with disabilities.  By installing a well-designed ramp, the CIBC has made its premises accessible for people with mobility difficulties and those who use aids like wheelchairs and walkers.  Commission Member Roger Wah-Shee presented the award to CIBC Manager Wendy Anderson at a luncheon at the Legislative Assembly on June 6.  As Mr. Wah-Shee stated, “Every time a physical barrier is removed and a ramp is installed, we move closer to inclusion and equality for persons with disabilities.”  The award was given as part of NWT Disability Awareness Week, June 4 to June 8, 2012, co-ordinated by the NWT Disabilities Council.
