NWTHRC Community Initiative Funding

The NWT Human Rights Commission has a small fund dedicated to community initiatives that support human rights.  Some community groups that have received this funding include:

  • The Best Buddies Program at École St. Patrick High School which provides volunteer, leadership and mentorship opportunities for all students. Best Buddies meets as a group in an inclusive and welcoming environment that allows friendships to grow among all students.
  • The Rainbow Coalition of Yellowknife received funding to support Days of Pink which supports queer and trans youth in Yellowknife by providing the public with opportunities to participate in discussions, workshops and panels throughout the week.
  • Sport North for their “You Can Play” video which promotes the inclusion of LGBTQ athletes, coaches, officials, and fans in sport

If your community project or initiative has a tie to human rights, you can submit a short proposal to the Commission requesting funding. You may be asked to present your proposal to the Commission.
