The NWT Human Rights Commission is proud to support Sport North Federation and their participation and leadership in the You Can Play movement. The TEAM NWT You Can Play video is the first of its kind by a provincial or territorial sports organization in Canada. The Commission is proud to have provided financial support to make the film a reality.
You Can Play works to ensure the safety and inclusion of everyone in sport—including LGBTQ athletes, coaches, officials and fans.
You Can Play works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete and are judged only by what they contribute to their sport or their team’s success.
You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete’s skill, work ethic and competitive spirit.
The Commission would like to acknowledge Sport North’s dedication to the principles of inclusion. We are thrilled to see an NWT organization demonstrating leadership in making equality in sports a reality. Congratulations from all of us at the NWT Human Rights Commission.
